Story

Very beautiful vintage 1978 rare “radial dial” 1675 chronometer certified Rolex GMT.

The production range during which we can find this extremely rare dial configuration is very short and hence the dial extremely rare.

This type of dial features a smaller, more centered index than the other GMT-Master dials. Furthermore, it can be seen that the writing on these dials have more serifs. Initially, this type of dial was introduced in the early 1960s but after a short production period it was discontinued and replaced by another type of dial. In 1977, however, the ‘Radial Dial’ made its reappearance on the market. Only now, with a matte, Swiss-T < 25 dial.

THE MK3 MATT RADIAL DIAL HAS BEEN ASSEMBLED ON GMT MASTERS 1675 EXCLUSIVELY FROM 1976 TO 1978, THIS IS TO SAY CIRCA BETWEEN 4.2 AND 5.5 MILLION SERIAL NUMBERS. THE SERIAL NUMBER OF THIS BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE IS 513xxx.

TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THAT FROM CIRCA 4.2 SERVICE CASES STARTED TO BE PRODUCED ONE CAN IMAGINE HOW SMALL THE NUMBER OF PRODUCTION CASES SUITABLE FOR THIS DIAL IS! A SEARCH THROUGH CHRONO24 WILL SHOW THE PRICE RANGE AND THE SMALL NUMBER OF WELL PRESERVED RADIAL DIALS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE.

This particular watch comes from a Canadian client with the original Rolex outer soft cardboard and hard Rolex box, non-punched and BLANK warranty paper, Rolex Canada service box, Rolex Canada service papers, Rolex GMT chronometer tag, Rolex towel, Rolex translation booklet.

The oyster bracelet is stamped, has signs of its vintage wear, the case and bracelet are sharp and I do not know the polishing history but there’s no crude polishing as shown in the pictures the stamps on the bracelet indicate the nice and sharp appearance. The stainless steel case, which measures 40 mm is in a great condition, still has thick lugs and sharp bevel edges. The watch is powered by the caliber 1570. Thanks to the short production period of just one year, the MKIII dial is very rare and interesting for collectors.
